THE PUBLIC BENEFITS INITIATIVE
The Public Benefits Pro Bono Initiative (PBI) was launched in 2015 to help address the needs of Sanctuary's public benefits clients. The PBI's goal is to train pro bono attorneys to work with clients who are having trouble securing and retaining appropriate Temporary Assistance (cash, utilities, and rental assistance) and/or Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP; fka Food Stamps) benefits. Pro bono attorneys who have attended a Sanctuary Public Benefits Training will assist clients by engaging in advocacy efforts on their behalf (e.g., letter writing, phone calls, accompanying client to interviews) or by representing clients in administrative fair hearings.
If you would like to get involved in the Public Benefits Pro Bono Initiative, please complete the "Interested in Becoming a PBI Firm" contact form and we will be in touch to answer any questions and/or to schedule a training at your firm. We simply ask that each firm that schedules a training commits to taking on 3-5 public benefits clients within the first six months following the training.
